Middle School Concept

I am using the parti/concept of a solar system/galaxy. My concept is derived from the sun being the central source of energy, similar to the teacher, surrounded with the students, being the planets.
The sun radiates its energy out to all the planets revolving around it and influencing them, much like the teacher and the student.

Moving on to the bigger picture, my solar system parti evolves into a galaxy parti as a school consists of a number of classrooms. All of these solar systems in the galaxy are different and have different qualities, much like the different classrooms in a school - every class has something different going on and has its own identity.

Redhook - Floor Plans

FIRST FLOOR PLAN:


The first floor plan consists of the coat check, restrooms, office, reception, bar, dining area and the kitchen with a service entrance. There are two staircases that lead up to the mezzanine. The first staircase that is visible as soon as you enter through the door is a huge, dramatic curved staircase that gives a sense of being in a ballroom. The floor follows the curves of the dancers' silhouette and separates the different areas.

MEZZANINE FLOOR PLAN:

The mezzanine consists of the dressing rooms, the dance floor, DJ booth and the stage. This area has a very different feeling from the first as the roof is projecting upwards and creates the sense of a dome on top of the dancers.

The mezzanine allows enough open space to the first floor so that even though it is underneath, it still has a sense of connection to the rest of the building as the roof elements extend all the way down to the first floor. This gives the sense of the embrace between the two dancers as they move along the dance floor executing the Tango dance.

Redhook Entertainment Center - Sketches

I am incorporating the fluent curves throughout my building that mimic Tango moves. I want all the spaces to connect through these curves and flow together while at the same time, separating the different spaces. The dining area will be on the first floor as that is the biggest amount of floor area available. The mezzanine will consist of the dance area and dressing rooms.

The floor plans will be organized so that when viewed from above, you can see the silhouettes of the two dancers connected in a Tango embrace.



The facade of the building will incorporate the movement of the different body parts in this dance. The diagonal elements are the elongation of the legs and the vertical elements are the arms of the two dancers.

Redhook Entertainment Center - Concept Board

The Concept of my design for the Entertainment Center is based on the theme of "Tango." I want the spaces to flow together and connect like the dance and be continuous. I want people to be able to feel the smoothness and flow of the dance when they step into this Entertainment Center and move from one space to the next.
